Find Your MUSE with Geoversity
At MUSE Global School, our commitment to sustainability is what sets us apart from other schools. Whether it’s our solar sunflowers, which help us offset our daily power usage, our super-insulated and air-sealed classrooms that maximize energy efficiency, or our water-efficient campus gardens, we’ve made a commitment to caring for our wild and living earth. And, in the process, we’re teaching our students how they can do the same.
That’s why MUSE has teamed up with Geoversity for over five years to offer our students, faculty, and staff the chance to explore the world while learning more about how to care for it.
Founded in 2000 as Earth Train Foundation, Geoversity offers hands-on experiences where students can learn about land conservation, habitat restoration, and more while exploring one of their three campuses. Their programs are grounded in the hard day-to-day work of watershed conservation and the fight to avert global ecological collapse, in team with local communities, indigenous authorities, and youth activists. In Panama, their key guides are indigenous and rural community leaders in the watershed of the Panama Canal and the neighboring watersheds.
Through their over two decades of experience, Geoversity helps students get their “hands dirty to fully grasp course materials, live real-life challenges, and experience decision-making in ways not possible in a classroom— while enjoying unique adventures.”
Early this month, our Head of School, Suzanne McClure, and Director of Middle and High School, Tressa Wyner, had the chance to experience one of these excursions. The pair set off for Geoversity’s main campus on the Mamoni Valley Preserve, a 12,000-acre rainforest conservancy just outside of Panama City, Panama.
The trip brought together biocultural regeneration and leadership, which creates learning and action that honors our unity with nature and ultimately leads to the development of sustainably healthy human societies and natural environments.
